For businesses, networking is a fast and easy way to achieve certain goals. Networking is typically considered a sales technique but it is valuable for more than just sales people. As The Business Link explains, networking provides an opportunity to share experiences and success and to learn from others. When youre meeting with other small business owners you realize youre not alone in dealing with certain challenges or issues. Business to business developing local expertise. Couple who lost home in floods, anxious for answers

RUSHFORD As Karen Wilkemeyer reflects on all that her family lost in the August floods, it's the simple things she misses most.

The star that always topped the family's Christmas tree. The handmade ornament she made as a first-grader. And then there are the baby pictures taken of her four children at the hospital.

"Their first pictures ever, and they're gone," she says.

She doesn't mention the family's obvious losses -- their two-story house and day-care business. Although it's been more than three months since floodwaters ravaged her hometown, Wilkemeyer still is struggling to process what happened.

"I don't think it's really hit me," she says. "I cry when I think about it. But I still feel like I'm in this foggy daze and not really understanding."

In one night, everything Tim and Karen Wilkemeyer had worked for was gone.

Scott Haggerty strode into Massimo's, perhaps Fremont's most venerable restaurant. He was jumpy and keyed-up, ready to make the pitch of his life. Nearly three years earlier, in the summer of 2001, Fremont's county supervisor had ensured that his city would be considered for a new ballpark. But ever since, the breaks hadn't favored Haggerty's hometown. So here he was, amid the overstuffed booths, mood lighting, and bow-tied waiters, quietly preparing to sell his anonymous 'burb as the future home of a Major League Baseball franchise.
